HISTORY

Right sided heart failure, dull at the bases - ? effusion

ULTRASOUND FINDINGS

This is the RUQ view used in the FAST scan, but directed slightly higher to show the posterior diaphragm.

An anechoic effusion is seen as a black triangle above the diaphragm. Above this the lung can just be seen descending with each breath.

There is also a trace of fluid in Morison's pouch.
