A gardener presented with a penetrating injury to the anterior compartment of right leg.
Despite the small entry wound he was concerned some of the palm frond had broken off.
The foreign body was not able to be detected clinically.
A wooden foreign body is usually most evident by the shadow it casts.
It is most obvious when seen in the long axis and when searching for it using multiple angles and probe orientations is essential.
Here a linear shadow casting foreign body approximately 4cm in length is seen within the body of the tibialis anterior muscle.
The orientation, depth and poistion of the foreign body was carefully marked and then removed by the ultrasound operator using asceptic technique.
